Subject: I desperately want to help...
To: amphibianark
Hi,
My name is Danny Espeleta, I am 9 years old and have
lived in Costa Rica with my parents most of my childhood (I was born in the
States and came here in 2002). My dad is a scientist and my mom an
environmental educator. We have lived at La Selva Biological Station in
Sarapiqui, CR and in EARTH University in Guacimo de Limon, both in the
caribbean slopes of the country. I have lived in the tropical rainforest
most of my life and have become an admirer of amphibians, especially of
frogs. Last year, in second grade, for my science fair project I did
play-dough models of dendrobatid poisonous frogs and compared them to a
non-poisonous specie to study the role of bright colors as a defense
mechanism (aposematism). This year I was very lucky to assist a scientist
who's studying the chytrid fungus in the skin of certain frog species,
Agallichnys being one of them. I was thrilled to go at night to the swamp
and listen to all those frogs. I was able to manipulate them with her and
took pictures of me and the frogs, which I am sharing with you. I would
like to help you out with the campaign in any way I can. I will be moving
to Minnesota by the end of October and I will enroll in a new school and I
would love to engage my new classmates and teachers in this project and
start an educational campaign over there. Please let me know how can I help
you and thanks so much for doing this.
Sincerely, Danny.
THANK YOU...
Daniel
